I have always loved the way this type of dessert looked, although, I never knew what it was called until recently! I have seen these bowls all over the place and finally decided to make the purchase.
A typical trifle includes layers of fruit, custard and sherry or wine soaked cake. I modified this dish and used white cake, fruit and whipped icing (this tends to be my standard dessert recipe). The trifle bowl made this so much easier. I no longer have to worry about my layers of cake sticking to their pans, no more icing multiple layers and no more stress when transporting my multi-layer cakes.
I used a large square pan to make the cake, then cut it into small cubes. I sliced up strawberries and threw those in along with blueberries. Then layered all of the ingredients together!
